This is more of a resource page than a blog. I will be adding links to paddling stories that appear in the Adirondack Explorer newsmagazine and on my Adirondack Outdoor Recreation blog. Over time, we should accumulate an extensive list of paddling trips, each with detailed descriptions and photos. Don't expect too much activity here over the winter, but bookmark the page now and visit often during the paddling season. I've also created an Adirondack Paddling page on Facebook and will post notices of new links on that page. That's a good way to stay abreast of the offerings here.

Right place, wrong time

I realize that mid-November is not the best time of year to start a blog on Adirondack Paddling. I will be adding links and other stuff occasionally over the winter, but don't expect too much activity here until spring. Meantime, you can browse the trip stories already posted. If you have any suggestions for improving the blog or for things you'd like to see, let me know.

The last canoe trip?

Last Wednesday I paddled the Beaver River Canoe Route from Beaver Lake, west of Stillwater Reservoir, to High Falls Reservoir near Croghan. All told, I canoed and carried about sixteen miles. I finished at dusk and began pedaling my bike the eighteen miles back to the put-in, in the dark on a dirt road. Happily, a hunter picked me up after mile twelve. The canoe route has a fair amount of development--power stations, utility lines, summer camps, and roads--but there are wild sections. I think I saw a couple of bald eagles on Effley Falls Reservoir. I'll post a link to a more detailed description of the trip in the future. Several days after the trip I went skiing on the Whiteface highway. An almost-sure sign that the paddling season is over for me. What was your last trip of the year?
